Weekly Updates

National Young Leaders Day
The Glenmore Road student leadership team attended the National Young Leaders Day at the ICC Theatre in Darling Harbour.  During the day we listened to high profile Australians talk about their courageous journeys as leaders.

The speakers included Olympian Emma McKeon, screenwriter Thomas Duncan Watt, Actress Catherine Laga'aia and Bondi Rescue's Anthony ‘Harries’ Carroll.

We learnt that nerves are okay and failures can be our best teachers.  Showcasing that nerves are worthwhile and failures can teach us to be resilient were also highlighted.

We learnt the skills and qualities of an effective leader and what to incorporate in our school as leaders.

Graduation Jerseys Presentation
The greatly anticipated jerseys were presented by the president or the P&C Ms Maher at a special assembly. The Year Sixers are very grateful for these amazing jackets. We will wear them with great pride.

REPEAT MESSAGES & REMINDERS:

Easter Hat & Pedlars Parade - Tuesday 8 April
Kindy – Year 2 Easter Hat Parade
: Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will be having an Easter Hat Parade. The students will be making their hats at home and will bring them to school to wear on the day of the parade. The hats can be made from a wide range of materials. Discount stores, Spotlight and art and craft stores are a good starting point to find items.  Please remember however this is some Easter fun, not a competition.  Students can wear mufti on the day of the Easter Hat Parade.

Year 3 - Year 6 Pedlars Parade: Students in Years 3-6 will be having a Pedlars Parade. A Pedlars Parade is a traditional way of raising funds and having fun. The students make things to sell at school for Easter. They dress-up as a ‘pedlar’ and parade their goods and then sell them to each other. The money raised will go towards school resources. We encourage children to use creativity and initiative to make items such as individually wrapped treats, stationery supplies, small toys etc - about 6-8 is a good number. Please remember that we have a number of students with food allergies and therefore we ask you not to send in food products with nuts. Students can wear mufti on the day of the Pedlars Parade. If you do not want your child to participate in the Pedlars Parade please notify your child’s class teacher.Students from K-6 can bring money on the day (no more than $5 please) and purchase tickets to buy items from the Pedlars. Each item is sold for $1 or $2, as the Pedlars decide.

PRC_Pic.jpgWelcome to the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature.  It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.  The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10.
