Spelling Stars of Year 2
I am delighted to take this opportunity to share the wonderful progress happening in our Year 2 classrooms! It has been a joy to witness our students fully immerse themselves in their learning, exploring new concepts and developing their skills with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Our students are applying phonological, orthographic, and morphological generalisations and strategies when spelling words across a range of writing contexts, which is impressive to see. Today, I had the privilege of having Finn, Sebby, Zoe and Nancy in my office, showcasing their dedication and perseverance in the classroom with their spelling work.
Exciting HPGE Opportunities Across the School
As we move further into Term 2, we are excited to highlight the ongoing high potential and gifted education (HPGE) initiatives that are enriching the learning experience for our K-6 students. The Stage 1 HPGE students are currently engaged in a program focused on developing their social and emotional intelligence. Meanwhile, the Stage 2 HPGE group is diving into mathematics, honing their problem-solving strategies through multi-step word problems and open-ended questions. In Stage 3, students are participating in two distinct HPGE groups. The Art Group, led by Ms. Seymour, is exploring the structure of portrait artworks through various mediums and has recently begun creating artistic pieces using clay. In the English HPGE group, students are delving into poetry with Mrs. Klein, studying the works of Wilfred Owen, a British soldier from World War I. They have been analysing the poetic techniques that evoke sensory imagery to convey mood and emotional tone, while also expanding their understanding of poetic devices, including punctuation and enjambment, to interpret meaning and tackle unfamiliar vocabulary. We are particularly enthusiastic about the upcoming Metropolitan South and Metropolitan South and West Public Speaking Competition. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their communication skills. With divisions for Early Stage 1, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3, students will have the chance to delve into topics they are passionate about. Watch this space for more information to arrive in your inbox before the holidays.
Demountable Update
Further to previous correspondence, we have just been advised by the Department of Education that a new date is to be scheduled in the coming weeks for the removal of our middle playground demountable.
NSW State Finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our two outstanding Year 6 students, Florencia and Darcy, who demonstrated their exceptional debating skills last Friday at the Zone Debating Competition hosted at Newtown Public School.
In a highly competitive environment, Florencia earned an impressive 9th place, while Darcy achieved an outstanding 5th place. The impromptu topic of "Making Sacrifices" inspired lively discussions and contributed to an exhilarating competition, which both students thoroughly enjoyed. Their hard work and dedication truly stood out, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations, Florencia and Darcy!
Grandparents Day
We are excited to announce that our annual Grandparents Day celebration will be held on Monday, 27 October. This special day is dedicated to honouring the cherished role grandparents play in our students' lives and in our community.
We understand that a lot of planning and preparation goes into making this day memorable. Therefore, we wanted to give you ample notice to mark your calendars and make any necessary arrangements. More details about the day's activities and how you can be involved will be shared in the coming weeks.
We look forward to celebrating with all the wonderful grandparents and creating lasting memories together!
