Term 2 Staff Development Days
We are pleased to share with parents that our Term 2 2025 School Development Day (SDD) focused on high potential and gifted education (HPGE). Over the course of two days, our staff engaged in professional learning sessions designed to enhance our support for high potential and gifted students. The sessions included: Flexible Grouping and Classes for High Potential and Gifted Students, Unrecognised Potential and Underachievement and Finding High Potential.
As a staff, we are excited about the opportunities these professional learning sessions provided to enrich our educational practices and best support our students.
Staff also dedicated time to learning more about our upgraded parent portal, School Bytes. The engagement among staff was exceptionally high, reflecting their enthusiasm and commitment to the system which will enhance our administrative processes and improve our overall efficiency.
Wakikirri Update
We are thrilled to share with students and parents that, following an urgent committee meeting, all students who submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Wakakirri 2025 will now be included. This decision reflects our commitment to providing wonderful opportunities for all students to participate and showcase their talents. We are excited for the journey ahead and look forward to seeing our students shine in this fantastic program!
Congratulations to Sue Heavener - 50 years of service with the Department of Education
We are delighted to celebrate Sue's remarkable achievement of 50 years of dedicated service to the NSW Department of Education. Sue has been an inspiring role model for both students and colleagues, demonstrating a genuine love for learning. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on our community, and we are grateful for her tireless efforts and leadership over the years. Join us in congratulating Sue on this significant accomplishment and expressing our heartfelt appreciation for her invaluable service!
Changes to Academic Reports
This term we will be introducing updated school reports for our students. These new reports have been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to valuable feedback from parents and educators, aiming to make reports easier to read and understand.
Your child’s report will continue to showcase their progress across all subject areas. Teacher comments will be provided in English, Mathematics, and the general comment section, in line with department policy. For our Kindergarten students, the general comment will also encompass all other key learning areas, including Creative Arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and science and technology.
Additionally, we are excited to include a new achievement scale and descriptions, which will give you a clearer picture of your child’s progress throughout the year.
Reporting on effort is optional for schools, but as we believe it can support family conversations about learning, we have decided to include information about your child’s overall effort in our reports.
Grandparents Day - Save the Date
We look forward to celebrating Grandparent Day on Monday morning, 27 October. More information will come closer to the event.
Kindy Demountable
We would like to inform parents that we are expecting the Kindergarten demountable to be removed off-site within the next 2-3 weeks, although a specific date has not yet been set. The Department of Education is planning to carry out the removal process before school hours. At this time, we do not anticipate any impact on your usual school drop-off routine. However, we will communicate promptly on the day of the removal should any issues arise.
ANZAC Day
During the holidays, myself and the leadership team represented our school at the ANZAC Day Wreath Laying Ceremony held at Steyne Park in Double Bay. The leadership team did an outstanding job in paying tribute to our ANZACs. We are proud of their efforts and grateful for their representation of our school at such an important event.
This morning, our annual Glenmore Road Public School ANZAC Day Service took place in the school hall, hosted by our student leaders. We were honoured to have Captain Marcus Andersen from the Australian Army Signals Corps as our special guest speaker, who eloquently shared the significance of the ANZAC spirit with the assembly. Finley laid the wreath, and our choir performed the poignant song "Lest We Forget," while Ms Andersen played the Last Post, creating a respectful and reflective atmosphere for the occasion.
Following the service, Stage 3 students engaged in a Q&A session with Captain Andersen, during which they posed a variety of insightful questions. It was a meaningful event that fostered learning and appreciation for our ANZAC heritage.
