Welcome to Week 5 which is proving to be another busy week. As we move through the term our regular routines are being complemented with many exciting events.
Stage 3 are very excited about attending their annual camp which will be at Berry next week and I look forward to hearing about all of their experiences. Thank you to all our staff attending to support this memorable experience. Photos will be shared over the next few weeks.
Swimming Carnival
Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting our Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival. The carnival was a great success and it was wonderful to see students participating, supporting and cheering their peers. Thank you to all our staff, in particular Ms Wieden, for coordinating the different aspects of the carnival to make the day a huge success. Results and photos will be included in the newsletter over the next few weeks.
Meet the Teacher Evenings
Thank you to all our families who attended their Meet the Teacher evenings over the past week. During the Meet the Teacher evenings class teachers presented information regarding class routines, organisation and curriculum priorities for Semester 1.
The parents I had the chance to meet greatly apprectiated having the opportunity to develop a stronger understanding of class routines and learning. The newsletters distributed during the meetings can be found on our school website under the Learning at GRPS tab.
NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5
NAPLAN will commence for all Glenmore Road students in Years 3 and 5 on Wednesday 12 March. All assessments will be online except for Year 3 Writing which will be handwritten. Students will need to have non-wireless headphones as some parts of the test, such as spelling, have an audio component. Please ensure your child is on time for school during this period. If a student is absent for a scheduled assessment they may be able to make it up on another day, providing it is within the test window.
The schedule for assessment is:
Attendance
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
At Glenmore Road Public School we strive to have all our students attend school every day. Rolls are marked each day by the classroom teacher. When students are absent from school, they are required by law to produce communication from their parents with a suitable reason for their absence.
Student absences:
On occasion a student may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may
include:
- being sick, or having an infectious disease
- having an unavoidable medical appointment
- being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral.
Thank you for your anticipated support to ensure our students attend school every day. More information can be found below.
Kiss and Drive
Prioritising the safety of our students is our absolute priority. Please take a moment to read the information below from Services NSW to support the safest and most efficient use of the Kiss and Drive area. It is hoped that improving the use of "Kiss and Drive" will minimise congestion and maximise student safety. Many thanks for your ongoing support.
Kiss and Drive Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in, or within 3 metres of, your vehicle. Days and hours of operation may apply to some zones.

Volunteers Wanted
The library would love some helpers to cover books with contact or hard plastic covering materials. No experience, just enthusiasm required!
Please come to school any Tuesday to be briefed by Sue Heavener as to what is required. Book covering can take place either at school or WFH.
If you have any questions, please come and see Mrs Klein in the library any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, or if easier just email her at judy.klein@det.nsw.edu.au
Thank you.
Just a reminder that the uniform shop is open every Wednesday morning during term time from 8:30 am to 9:45 am for new uniform sales. Alternatively, uniforms can be purchased via Flexischools and picked up from the school office once you receive a message that your order is ready.
We will be holding a second-hand uniform giveaway during the school term—dates to be confirmed.
Apologies for the current shortage of Size 10 and 12 short-sleeve polos. As soon as they are back in stock, we will send out a notice.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email GRPSuniformshop2024@gmail.com.

2025 Kindy Offer
Each new kindy is entitled to 2 FREE Cottage sessions! After you make your next two bookings, we will apply a 100% discount. If you would like to redeem this offer, please send us an email once you’ve booked in to ensure the discount gets applied!
If your child already has permanent/recurring bookings and you would like this to be applied to your existing spots, please let us know.
Thank you so much for all the interest so far! If you’re a Kindy parent and you’re unsure about what the Cottage has to offer, please feel free to get in contact with us at any time.
Extra-Curricular Activities
At The Cottage, we’re committed to keeping children engaged in all that GRPS has to offer. That’s why we assist with taking children to and from their before- and after-school extracurricular activities—so long as they take place on the GRPS campus!
If your child is booked into a session but needs to attend one of these classes, please email us for a copy of our Extra-Curricular Form!
For once-off bookings (not regular), just an email stating the pick-up/drop-off time suffices.
Unsupervised Senior Sign-out
The Cottage recognizes the importance of fostering independence and responsibility in our Year 5 & 6 students. If you are interested in allowing your child to walk home from Cottage, we offer this option after both parent and child have agreed to the terms of our Unsupervised Senior Sign-Out Agreement.
Your child’s safety is our number one priority – we will remind your child of the safety precautions each time they leave. However, it is up to you to assess if your child is ready for this level of responsibility.
If you are interested in this, please email us for more details! The agreement will need to be read and signed by both yourself, your child and a Cottage representative.

Our P&C's AGM will be held on THIS EVENING Wednesday 26th February at 6.45pm at the Four In Hand. All positions will be declared vacant and we are looking for parents to step up to the plate. We need a new President!
GRPS needs a functioning P&C to continue the efforts of our team, to ensure P&C raised funds stay at GRPS and for The Cottage to continue. Without a P&C, all our funds get returned to DoE and The Cottage goes out to tender.
